The Bookhers is the reading group established by the United Jewish Congregation of Hong Kong. We are a place to enjoy texts of Jewish interest, share companionship, and have interesting exchanges of ideas.  We have decided to open our readings and online events to others in the Asian Jewish Community who are interested.

As we have in the past, we will continue to alternate between fiction and non-fiction texts. Also, as in the past, we have chosen two books (one fiction and one non-fiction) to read over the summer.  Even if you are away or travelling during this time, you can read and enjoy our selections.  We will meet on an agreed evening at the end of the summer to discuss and review the books we have chosen.

This summer, the group has made the decision to read as our non-fiction selection Paul French’s “Strangers on the Praia” and Linda Grant’s “When I Lived In Modern Times.”

We will meet to discuss these books on Thursday, 11th September, and all are invited, whether or not you have completed the books. For those who can attend live, we will meet at 7:30 PM.  For those out of town, we will come online on Zoom at 8:00 PM. Come and join us in a spirited discussion and schmooze with friends after the summer. All are invited but please RSVP to gstein888@yahoo.com so we can make reservations to handle those attending and know whom to expect online.
