Emma Lavin

Hi everyone, my name is Emma Lavin.  I’m originally from New York City, but I’ve been in Hong Kong for 16 years.  I’m an early childhood educator and a mom of three.  I’ve been teaching for 16 years and this will be my 7th year teaching Gan!  I’m excited to start another year building love for Judaism, teaching our stories and learning Hebrew together.

Andrew Mullen

I am originally from a small town in the northeast of England, but I have been in Hong Kong for around 20 years.  I am a journalist but have also been teaching for the last nine years.  I am married to Ayelet and we have an eight-year-old daughter Ayala, and new arrival Avital.  I am looking forward to my second year teaching at Shorashim having been a member of The UJC for the last 16 years, which includes our wedding and my recent Bar Mitzvah.

Orly Liran Ohayon

Hi!  My name is Orly Liran Ohayon, and I’m thrilled to be part of the Shorashim team teaching Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Originally from Israel, I relocated to Hong Kong seven years ago with my husband, Ronen, and our three children. With over 15 years of experience as a CPA, I bring structured planning, analytical thinking, and enthusiasm to the classroom. I hold specialized training in teaching Hebrew to non-native speakers (“Ivrit Betnufa”) and supportive strategies for diverse learning needs (“Etz Hachashiva”). My passion is creating dynamic, interactive, and joyful learning experiences where children can build strong language skills, explore Jewish values and holidays, and foster a deep, meaningful connection to their heritage.

Judah Frankel

Judah grew up in Hong Kong and has been a member of The UJC for almost as long as it’s existed.  He works at an art gallery as their tech-monkey, reads almost nonstop, and knows more obscure factoids than you can shake a stick at (including where that saying comes from).  He enjoys the great outdoors when it’s not too hot, and tries to enjoy the little things in life wherever possible.
